Smart phones first became popular feature phones

Smart phones for the first time in history on supplies ahead of regular phones, analysts IDC in its report for the first quarter of 2013.


In the reporting period, manufacturers shipped a total of 418.6 million mobile devices, which is 4% higher than a year ago. Of these, the proportion of smartphones accounted for 51.6% or 261.2 million units. For comparison, in the first quarter of 2012, shipments of mobile devices totaled 402.4 million units, of which smart phone is only 38% of the devices.

Leading supplier of mobile devices is the Samsung. The share of the Korean producers have shipped 32.7% of all smartphones in the first quarter and 27.5% of all shipped "regular" mobile phones. Apple ranked second with a share of 17.3%. The five largest manufacturers also included LG, Huawei and ZTE, which operate approximately equal: 4.8%, 4.6% and 4.2%, respectively.

Experts explain the primacy of Samsung, in particular, a wide model range: in addition to "regular" phones and smartphones on Android, the company offers machines on the platforms of Windows Phone and bada.
