Smartphones with Intel Merrifield are all set to launch in 2014

In a recent conference, Intel flaunted its latest smartphone design at Computex in Taiwan as the chipmaker is all set to make grounds in the mobile phone market in 2014. The executive vice-president of Intel, Tom Kilroy revealed that a smartphone that will run the Merrifield processor has been given the codename to the forthcoming 22nm Atom syetem-on-chip (SoCs). The Vice President has claimed that this particular Merrifield chip will deliver twice the performance of the predecessor and the devices will officially be launched in 2014 at Mobile World Congress.

As the smartphones are infamous for their only fault, their diminishing battery life, the Vice President, Tom Kilroy has claimed that the Merrifield chip will be able to offer improved battery performance although he didn’t agree to go into the specifications of the phone. In the meanwhile, he also confirmed that the tablets that were confirmed by Bay Trail processors will later on enter the market in 2013. All these tablets will be available in varieties of quad-core and will provide you with performance that is double to that of the previous generation tablets. The tablets will also support resolutions up to 2560*1440 as explained by Tom Kilroy.

The tablets that will use the Bay Trail processors will offer up to 8 hours of battery life and will also support both Android and Windows platform, as per what Intel has claimed. All the next generation devices that will use Bay Trail and Merrifield will be expected to support the 4G connectivity and this can easily be done by incorporating Intel XMM 7160 modem within those devices. Currently, there is no timeframe for when Intel’s chip will be able to support 4G functionality that is built into the chips but this shouldn’t pose too much as an issue as the 7160 modem is pretty small to be used in the smartphones.

The launch of the Intel Atom chips marks a huge milestone for Intel as it goes as a competition with ARM licensees such as Qualcomm. You can wait for buying such smartphones with Intel processor to experience the fun of technology.
