Dual booting means that the two are installed on the Mac operating system, and when you start the user selects one of them. OS X Mavericks will function independently of the main system OS X 10.8 (or 10.7 or 10.6, if you have an older Mac) with your values and established programs.

To do this, we just have to prepare a special partition on the hard disk, and then install the OS, using, for example, the instructions for creating a bootableUSB-stick with OS X Mavericks . Be sure to make a backup copy of the data on your Mac, before you start to split the hard drive into sections.

Setting up a dual-boot OS X Mavericks and OS X 10.8:

Step 1 : Launch Disk Utility from the Applications folder -> Utilities.

Step 2 : Select the primary hard drive from the sidebar, then click the disk partition.

Step 3 : Click the [+] button to add a new partition, set it at a level no less than 12 GB and name the Mavericks. Click Apply.
