Many Mac users want to test the new operating system OS X Mavericks . Setting up your
computer to dual boot in this situation is the most suitable option.
Dual booting means that the two are installed on the Mac
operating system, and when you start the user selects one of them. OS X
Mavericks will function independently of the main system OS X 10.8 (or 10.7 or
10.6, if you have an older Mac) with your values and established programs.
To do this, we just have to prepare a special partition on
the hard disk, and then install the OS, using, for example, the instructions for creating a bootableUSB-stick with OS X Mavericks . Be sure to make a backup copy of the data
on your Mac, before you start to split the hard drive into sections.
Setting up a
dual-boot OS X Mavericks and OS X 10.8:
Step 1 : Launch
Disk Utility from the Applications folder -> Utilities.
Step 2 : Select
the primary hard drive from the sidebar, then click the disk partition.
Step 3 : Click
the [+] button to add a new partition, set it at a level no less than 12 GB and
name the Mavericks. Click Apply.
Step 4 : Close
the Disk Utility at the end of the operation, and then run the «Install OS X
10.9» from the Applications folder.
Step 5 : In the
setup menu, choose the Mavericks as the primary drive (you may have to use the
command "Show all drives" to see the partition).
OS X Mavericks will complete the installation and run the
new operating system. To re-boot your host operating system, restart the
computer while holding the Option (Alt), and select from the boot menu OS X
10.8.
