NASA has created image as many as 160 megapixels ,
portraying the galaxy closest to us , the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC
International denoted by the acronym). To obtain this huge image, a sort of
"landscape" space, have been joined thousands of images, captured by
the Swift telescope ( optical / ultraviolet) and composed together by
astronomers at NASA and Pennsylvania
State University .
It is the image with the highest resolution available for LFC, a job that
required increasing spotlight of 5.4 days.
The images were captured with Swift thanks to the ability to
show the UV wavelengths, which allow astronomers to suppress the light emitted
by the stars, providing clearer images of star formation.
Together with the image of CML NASA has also released one of
the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), with a
lower resolution, but still considerable, or 55 megapixels . This galaxy is the
second closest to the Earth , with its distance of 200,000 light-years ( LMC it
is 163,000 ). SMC is about half the size of CML, and contains nearly two-thirds
of its mass, making it a rather small galaxy.
The photo of CML, a 457MB TIFF files, you can download at
this address , which can also be found at the image of SMC and others.
