The technology OLED is almost certainly the future, for the
TV market, but it is not yet present: because of the considerable production
difficulties, in fact, mainly due to the high number of rejects during the
production, it is virtually impossible, for all producers , ensuring consistent
volumes, essential for mass production. A change to this situation could be the
first LG , which announced the ' start of mass production in the second half of
2014 .
To make possible the attainment of this objective will be
the opening of a new production line, defined eighth generation. With it will
be produced panels over 50 ", with a capacity of 26,000 panels per month.
LG Display (the branch that deals with the production of panels) will invest in
this new facility, 650 million dollars , with the hope of obtaining , as
claimed by analysts iSuppli, approximately 75,000 OLED TV year, a number
certainly not yet high, but sufficient to considerably reduce the current
prices, very high also because of the very few units produced.
